Demographic Data

Alberta’s population is the bedrock for economic growth. On the whole, Alberta has a highly educated workforce with a median age lower than the rest of Canada. Workers in central Alberta have more technical diplomas and certificates per capita than both the province and the nation. Thanks to our colleges and technical institutes, this trend isn’t going to reverse anytime soon.

Traditionally, Alberta is also one of the most diverse provinces — according to a 2006 study, almost one in six Albertans was born outside of Canada. Our communities welcome newcomers from all over the world, and have amongst the lowest crime rates in Canada.

For more information about Alberta’s population, visit Statistic Canada’s site for extensive conclusions drawn from the latest national census or the Alberta government’s site for population data for every single municipality, township, or village in the province. Statistics Canada also publishes detailed information about the face of Alberta’s labour force.
